Get ready for a fast-paced, action-packed fishing trip right in the heart of South Padre Island's pristine bay waters. This 3-hour charter with SPI Fish Killer Charters is tailor-made for anglers who want to make the most of their time on the water. Whether you're a seasoned pro or it's your first time holding a rod, Captain Paco Hinojosa has got you covered for an unforgettable day of chasing Speckled Trout and Redfish.

What to Expect on the Water

This isn't your average lazy day of fishing – we're talking about non-stop action from the moment we leave the dock. You and up to three buddies will hop aboard Captain Paco's well-maintained boat for a private charter designed to put you on the fish. We'll be using live Croaker as bait, a local favorite that Specks and Reds just can't resist. The calm waters of South Padre Bay make for perfect conditions, whether you're a first-timer or looking to sharpen your skills. And the best part? Everything you need is included – from ice and drinks to bait and even fish cleaning at the end of your trip. Just bring your game face and be ready to reel 'em in!

Techniques That Land Lunkers

On this trip, we'll be focusing on some tried-and-true inshore fishing techniques that are perfect for targeting Speckled Trout and Redfish. We'll likely start with some drift fishing, letting the boat glide along while we work our lines near structure and drop-offs where the big ones like to hang out. Captain Paco might also have us try some sight casting if conditions are right – there's nothing quite like the thrill of spotting a tailing red and making that perfect cast. Throughout the trip, you'll pick up tips on reading the water, working your bait, and setting the hook like a pro. It's hands-on learning that'll up your fishing game in no time.

Why Anglers Keep Coming Back

"Second year in a row, we have booked Captain Paco. Was an incredible experience. Action all day! We caught at least 30 fish today! Only able to keep 6 due to regulations. Boat was clean and in exceptional shape. Captain taught our 8 year old how to fish very well. Will book again next year for our yearly trip. Highly recommend his services for anglers of any skill level." - Samantha

"My teen boys and I had a blast with Captain Paco. Caught our limit on nice sized trout, and then some great Reds - biggest was 28.5". Both of my boys really enjoyed learning from Captain Paco (so did I). Thanks for the amazing time, Captain Paco - looking forward to coming back again!" - Dustin

Species You'll Want to Hook

Speckled Trout, or "Specks" as we call 'em, are the bread and butter of South Padre Bay fishing. These silvery beauties with their distinctive spots can grow up to 25 inches or more, though most keepers run in the 15-20 inch range. They're known for their aggressive strikes and acrobatic fights, making them a blast to catch on light tackle. Specks tend to school up, so when you find one, you've often found a bunch. They're most active in the cooler months, but summer mornings can be red hot too.

Redfish, or Red Drum, are the other stars of our inshore show. These copper-colored bruisers are famous for their bull-dog fighting style and distinctive black spot near the tail. In the bay, we typically catch "slot reds" between 20-28 inches, but don't be surprised if we hook into a bigger bull that'll really test your arms. Reds love to cruise the shallows, often revealing their location with their signature "tailing" behavior as they root for crabs in the mud. There's nothing quite like the thrill of sight-casting to a tailing red and watching it engulf your bait.

Time to Book Your Spot

Look, I could go on all day about the fish we catch and the good times we have out on South Padre Bay, but the truth is, you've gotta experience it for yourself. This 3-hour trip is perfect for fitting some serious fishing action into your vacation schedule, and with everything included, it couldn't be easier. Captain Paco knows these waters like the back of his hand and is always ready to share his knowledge, whether you're a first-timer or a seasoned angler. So why wait? The fish are biting, the weather's perfect, and there's a spot on the boat with your name on it. Give SPI Fish Killer Charters a call and let's get you out on the water for some of the best inshore fishing South Padre Island has to offer. Trust me, once you feel that first hit on your line, you'll be hooked for life!

Sea Trout

Down here in South Padre, we call 'em speckled trout, and they're a favorite target for good reason. These silvery fish typically run 14-24 inches, with some monsters hitting 5 pounds or more. You'll find 'em in the grass flats and shallow waters, especially active at night. They love to hit artificial lures - jerk baits, topwater plugs, and plastic shrimp work great. Specks put up a good fight and taste delicious, with flaky white meat that's best not overcooked. They're here year-round, but winter's when they school up in deeper channels. One local trick: troll slowly along grass edges if you're having trouble locating them. The bite can be finicky, so vary your retrieve speed. Whether you're after the thrill of the catch or a tasty dinner, speckled trout fishing is hard to beat in our bays.
